Rev. Paul Benz, Street Minister

I’m a mental health, addiction, grief and trauma chaplain. I served as a chaplain at Harborview Medical Center and a U.S. Peace Corps Volunteer in Uganda. I am an ordained minister in the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, and earned an MDiv at Pacific Lutheran Theological Seminary. I started working at Operation Nightwatch in December 2021.

Why I Serve at Operation Nightwatch

“Life’s most persistent and urgent question is, ‘What are you doing for others?’” -Rev Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

“It’s not about a dollar to the homeless man, it’s about perceiving what’s happening in this very moment and deliberately choosing to extend love.” -Rebecca Riots

Listening to our unhoused siblings makes me feel alive.
