Engage

Intimidated to engage with a homeless person for the first time? You’re not alone.

Start with a smile or “hello.” Every person is worthy of dignity and respect.

Bottled water, soft energy bars or candy, and socks are always appreciated.

Take the time to listen. A sympathetic ear goes a long way in caring for people.

Be patient. Building trust takes time, because people’s problems are not quickly solved. Kindness can work wonders for those who are getting kicked around by life.

For other ways to engage with homeless people, check out our volunteer opportunities, or email us at info@seattlenightwatch.org.
