Donna Jean’s Women’s Shelter Building Campaign

During the cold winter months in early 2024, Operation Nightwatch launched a women’s shelter. We named it Donna Jean’s Place, in honor of Donna Jean Palmberg, whose husband was the founder of Nightwatch. It has been in constant use ever since.

Today, we have an opportunity to double the shelter’s capacity and move to a loving church community to host women in need of a safe place to sleep.

But first, the space needs renovations and repairs.

We need to raise $150,000 – for capital costs and initial operations. We know we can do it with your support! Please join us as we work to improve this space and create a safe, comfortable space so women experiencing homelessness can lay their heads and sleep soundly at night.

Some basic amenities your generosity will provide include:

  • construction
  • drywall
  • paint
  • upgraded plumbing
  • laundry facilities
  • showers & shower curtains
  • refinished floors & flooring
  • window repairs & window coverings for privacy
  • beds & bedding
  • new bathroom facilities including toilets and sinks
  • storage spaces for belongings

Tonette Winston, director of shelter for Nightwatch (pictured above with Donna Jean Palmberg), states: “With this expansion, we’re increasing our ability to help women find stability. We expect Donna Jean’s to help more than 100 different women annually to find stability as they prepare for their next steps. We’re thrilled to offer safety, security, friendship and some much-needed services.”
