I placed my pizza order.

We take pizzas with us when we visit the camps and shelters, and so we have to call ahead to have everything ready. When I was done placing my order, the helpful person on the other end of the phone said, “Is this Pastor Rick?”

“Yes, who is this?”

“This is Barney. I used to be in a camp you guys helped. Now I’m working here.”

Isn’t that great? When I got to the restaurant last night, I played it cool, and they played it cool. “Your secret is safe with me,” I thought, walking out with the pizzas.

No one wants to own up to being homeless. It’s like being a leper or something. Barney didn’t want his coworkers to know he used to be homeless. People won’t look at you the same after they find out. There are around 12,000 people suffering this disgrace tonight in Seattle/King County.

Thanks for making room in your heart for someone.
